Cool Tech Tool of the Month: Simplenote - Ekzact Solutions - Digital Web Company

There are plenty of tools and apps out there that perform a large number of complex tasks, but sometimes you need something that serves a relatively straightforward purpose. This is why we’re looking at Simplenote, a free signup-based application that helps you take and organize notes across multiple devices.

Key Features

A feature you’re likely to use more than any other is Simplenote’s tagging and search system. All notes can be tagged, and clicking on a tag displays all of its related notes. Of course, everything can be searched by terms appearing in the notes themselves. Then there’s the backup system, which allows you to save backups of your account and instantly navigate between backup iterations using a chronological slider. Import/export of various text formats is available and an extensive developer community has written a wide range of tools for integrating and syncing Simplenote with other software. While it’s only available for Mac, iOS, Android, and Kindle, a third party app serves as a Simplenote client for Windows.

Cloud Convenience

Whether you’re at your laptop, your desktop computer, or using your smartphone, you’ll have access to all of your information as long as you’re connected to the internet. When you’re not connected, Simplenote automatically switches you to offline mode, saving changes locally until you reconnect to the web and the most recent version of your notes in the cloud are updated accordingly. Stemming from its connectivity to the cloud is the “Collaborate” feature, which allows you to invite other users via email to view and edit a note even if they’re not signed up to the Simplenote service.

Intuitive and Effective

One of the central reasons for preference of this app over competitor Evernote is that the latter has added on a number of features over time that some might consider unnecessary, including voice notes and locations. Its interface is also comparatively more complicated and has run into criticism regarding its buggy functionality. Meanwhile, the clean and unassuming immediacy of Simplenote allows a user to do just what they require a note-taking app to do: quickly write something down that will appear across all of their other devices. As you would expect, the beauty is in its simplicity!
