SEO - Getting Indexed

There are a few tips that should be noted when your website is about to go live. There is the option of submitting your website to all the main search engine companies i.e. Google, MSN and Yahoo. But this takes time and time is one thing that most website owners like yourself might not have when your site does go live.

Do consider that you have already spent a vast amount of cash as investment into your website and now you want your investment to start paying out. The latter is of course the reason why website owners and webmasters take the plunge into the World Wide Web. If you are thinking of sending your website to one of the search engine companies then you have to know how long it will take for your website to be indexed by this company. The longest that it has been known for a website to be indexed by one of these search engine companies is 2 months (MSN and AOL). Whereas there are other that will only take 1 week (AltaVista) and 2 weeks (Fast).

You will want to be indexed on one of the main search engines because of the simple fact that they are used a lot every single day. So the chances of a lot of people visiting your website is greatly improved if you are indexed on one of the main search engines. One of the first things you must do when getting ready to submit your website to a search engine company is to obviously make sure that your website is fully ready. This means getting rid of any bugs that might be on the website. If you do not get rid of all the little bugs and glitches then you can be sure that someone else will find them for you and then this can cause you a lot of problems if you are not prepared. Also you must have your description ready for the search engine. This is a simple 25 word or less description of your website and if you write an awesome description then you can be sure that you will receive a lot of visits to your website.

If you are selling something then try not to make it all about how you are the lowest price company on the planet. That is just marketing hype and no one will fall for it. Just make a brief description of what you sell. This will then jump out at people who are looking for a certain item.

You can also submit your website to the open directory. This is a volunteer guide to the web. It is provide to webmasters as an option at all the major websites like MSN, Google and Yahoo. The good news about submitting your website to the open directory is that it is totally free and you will never be charged for using the open directory. Unfortunately there is no guarantee about a turn around time. But it should take round about 3 weeks and if you still can’t see your website listed after that, then you will need to re-submit your website again. This may seem like a lot of time wasting, but there are a lot of websites that want to go onto the open directory and that means that some of these websites might fall through the net occasionally.

There are people that have said that you should never submit your website to places like Google or MSN because you will never be listed as high as people that just leave their website to be picked up automatically. Leaving it to be picked up automatically is a risk that shouldn’t be taking by webmasters.
