Referral Networks Work

One of the key points of a successful business is one that remains active in the business and local community and learns to take advantage of the opportunities for networking and referrals within these areas. Word of mouth and referrals from other companies are proven to be very successful in bring in business and clients, whether the referrals are given through online links and resources, or offline network. Knowing that such networking is valuable brings up the question of how to best establish such networks and where to begin.

In every area of the world the matter of networking has subtle differences, but many of the same theories work world wide. As an example we will look at the Calgary, Alberta area in Canada and the resources a business can tap into there. Keep in mind these same resources, or ones that are similar, are available in many areas.

Some of the simplest resources to draw upon for company networking are the Calgary Better Business Bureau, where you should get listed as quickly as possible, and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.

For our example: The Calgary Chamber of Commerce has been around since the late 1800s and is a non profit group that is dedicated to trade and business relationships across Canada and has become well known world wide. This organization assists businesses with speakers and value added programs designed to help new businesses get on their feet and make connections with other businesses both new and established. Many of the Chamber policies have been made a part of national economic policies and businesses that are members have access to many resources to help them on their path to success.

Like the Calgary Chamber of Commerce is the Progress Group for Independent Business organization. This group creates business clubs across the nation that small businesses can join. These clubs allow for networking in your local businesses, exchanging marketing information and working in partnerships to bring more customers into more businesses. These clubs meet monthly to share ideas and resources, exchanging business cards, flyers and internet links to spread the word about local businesses and help the club, as a whole, to succeed.

These two groups are beginning examples of easy places to start networking, and represent such organizations that can be found around the globe. Many business resources exist to help your business grow, and very often other business owners are happy to help as they can also be helped by the connection. Where many small businesses work together all tend to thrive, even if they are offering services that seem to be in competition. Use these resources from the time you start a business as this networking can save you thousands of dollars in experience and marketing effort and help drive your business to success. Networking works...give it a try.
