Editing Images for CMS

If your website was developed using a content management system, or CMS, then you will soon be faced with the task of manipulating your images to place within you web page content.

While there are a lot of image editing software packages that are available that will allow you to manipulate images, many of which come with a heafty price tag and even a steeper learning curve.

Window of course has been equipped with "Paint" for years. Then there are the more sophisticated softwares for image editing like Photoshop. Photoshop is a huge program and intended for professionals. The simple things we need to do to images for website articles including; cropping, resizing and adding a border or frame simply do not warrant all of the learning required to use Photoshop.

We find ourselves teaching our clients the same few image manipulation steps every time we deliver a new Content Management System. These steps include cropping an image, so that we are only left with the portion we need. Resizing the image, primarily because the images in their original size are typically way too large for a website article. The final steps we used to try to teach our clients was how to add a decorative frame, border or a simple drop shadow. These last steps used to be a hurdle for most, after all, they are business people not website designers.

So in the past, manipulating article images for a CMS website was sometimes easier said that done when it came time for the clients to have a go.

The struggle to get quality and consistent results, is all in the past now... image manipulation is a PICNIK now...
